D Visas 

Procedure:

• Can get D even if not employed at time of application.
• Cannot use visa unless employed. Under D status not authorized to work in U.S. even if incident to status.
• 29 days maximum period of admission.
• No extensions of stay.
• Not eligible for D if:
  
  • Family member.
  • Entering U.S. to join ship.
  • Coasting officer - officer hired by carrier to replace officer of foreign vessel on crew leave.
  • A strike or lockout is in progress unless person had been employed by the company for at least a year.
